Following is a copy of a letter from the Headteacher dated 25th June 2018 regarding school funding:
Dear Parent / Carer
School Funding Meeting – Thursday 5th July 2018
In March 2017 the North Hertfordshire Headteachers sent out a letter to parents and carers about school funding. Last month we sent out another letter highlighting our increasing concerns regarding this matter. Each school gave specific examples of the impact that the funding crisis was having on the educational provision for their students.
Earlier this academic year The Priory School took part in a School Financial Review as part of the work the Treasury was doing on behalf of the Department for Education. The aim of the review was to identify best practice in schools. The outcome of the review was that The Priory School was an example of best practice in the allocation of resources.
When the North Hertfordshire Headteachers have sent letters out regarding school funding we have asked parents and carers to contact their local Members of Parliament. Our Member of Parliament (MP) Bim Afolami is a strong supporter of lifelong learning. He recognises the importance that education has in ensuring that Britain remains at the forefront of the global economy.
Over the last few months Bim has facilitated a meeting for myself and other local Headteachers to meet Nick Gibb, the Minister of State for Education, and for one of my colleagues, Sam Hankin, to go to 10 Downing Street to meet members of the cabinet and the Prime Minister. On 8th June 2018 in the House of Commons, Bim asked the Secretary of State for Education about school funding for Hertfordshire and for his constituency.
It is my opinion that Bim is a pro-active MP who clearly understands the challenges schools currently face. Bim has asked to come to The Priory School to discuss funding and field questions from parents and carers from the three secondary schools in Hitchin.
Date: Thursday 5th July 2018 Time: 6-7pm Venue: Main School Hall
I would encourage you to attend this meeting to support the school and our local MP who will continue to represent our concerns at Westminster.
